Practical information
On this page we have gathered the most important information to help you prepare your child for camp and give parents the guidance they need.
What to bring to camp?
Taevaskoja camp has everything needed for children to take part in the activities and enjoy camp life. Kick scooters and helmets, a volleyball and football pitch with equipment, and a low ropes course are available for use at the camp.
Bed linen, blankets and pillows are provided at the camp, so there is no need to bring them from home. However, it is worth packing personal clothing, a water bottle, personal hygiene items, a towel and anything else needed so that the young person feels comfortable at camp.
When coming to camp, please bring:
- a completed and signed participant card
- a hat
- comfortable clothes
- long trousers and a sweatshirt for hikes
- comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking outdoors
- one pair of socks and underwear for each day
- personal hygiene items, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and shower gel
- a bath towel or hand towel
- any medication needed, to be handed to the camp counsellor for safekeeping
- a personal water bottle
- a small backpack for hikes
- a personal bike helmet, if you have one
- plasters
- swimwear for the water fight
- sunscreen
- waterproof clothing or a raincoat
- favourite music for the discos
- a good mood
What you don't need to bring?
Bed linen, a blanket and a pillow are provided at the camp, so there is no need to pack them.
Please do not bring laptops, tablets, televisions, game consoles or other electronics to camp. Please leave them at home so that young people can focus on the camp experience, socialising and shared activities.
What must not be brought to camp?
- Tobacco products, tobacco-like products, alcohol or other intoxicants or prohibited substances.
- Bladed weapons and explosives
- A bad mood
Medication and special needs
If a young person takes medication, it must be handed to the camp counsellor for safekeeping at camp. Please include clear instructions on how and when the medication should be taken.
If your child has allergies, food intolerances, special diets, phobias, health-related restrictions or other important particularities, please be sure to let us know at registration. That way we can better take your child's needs into account.
Mobile phones and electronics
Mobile phones may be brought to camp, but on arrival they must be handed to the group's camp counsellor for safekeeping. The phone can be used during phone time, which takes place every day for 30 minutes after dinner.
We recommend leaving the phone at home if possible, as your child can be contacted when needed through the group counsellor or the senior counsellor. Parents will receive the contact details of their child's group counsellor on the day of arrival.
Mosquito repellent and sun protection
Mosquito repellent may be brought to camp. If needed, it is used under the supervision of a camp counsellor and outside indoor areas.
Sunscreen is also recommended, especially in warm and sunny weather. It can also be handed to the camp counsellor for safekeeping if needed.
Good to know before packing
We recommend packing together with your child so that they know what they have with them and where to find things.
A lot of time at camp is spent outdoors, so be prepared for warm, cool and rainy weather. Comfortable closed-toe shoes and clothing suited to the weather make the camp stay more enjoyable.
Before coming to camp
Before camp, it is worth calmly talking through with your child what going to camp means. Camp has a set daily schedule, a new room and bed, lots of other children and camp counsellors who may not be familiar to the child at first.
At the same time, exciting activities, new friends, evenings together and experiences that don't happen at home every day await the young person. It is worth explaining to your child that at camp they will need to take part in group activities, stick to agreements, interact with new people and adapt to a daily schedule that differs from the usual. This helps the child settle in better and lays the groundwork for a good camp experience.
What should we know about your child?
Cooperation with parents and carers is very important to us. The more we know about a child's needs before camp starts, the better we can support them. Please be sure to let us know at registration or before camp begins if your child is coming to camp for the first time, wants to share a room with a particular friend, or has previous experience of spending longer periods away from home.
We also ask you to inform us in writing of your child's particularities and needs, such as allergies, special diets, phobias, unexpected behavioural patterns, physical limitations or neurodivergence. This information helps us take your child into account and respond appropriately if needed.
If important information does not reach us before the camp session starts, the child may not feel safe enough at camp and the camp experience may remain incomplete.
First time at camp
Being away from home for a longer time for the first time can be both exciting and a little scary. This is completely natural. Homesickness can arise at camp even when the child really wanted to come. Our experienced staff know how to support young people through this and help find ways for the child to settle into camp life more calmly.
If a child wishes to leave the camp, we ask you to contact us before coming to pick them up. Often a calm conversation, supporting the child and working together with the parent help find a solution that gives the young person the chance to see the experience through to the end.
Arrival and departure
We welcome campers on the first day of camp between 12.00 and 14.00. Departure takes place on the last day of camp between 10.00 and 12.00.
We recommend that the child arrives at and leaves the camp accompanied by the adult responsible for them. If this is not possible, the child must bring a participant card completed and signed by a parent or guardian stating the relevant consent. In that case, responsibility lies with the parent.
Accommodation and catering
Up to 85 young people stay at the summer camp at a time. They are accommodated in up to three houses, in rooms for 2–6 people. All houses have hot water and washing facilities. We keep clear agreements about visiting rooms to ensure young people's privacy and safety. Outdoors and in the shared areas, young people have plenty of opportunities to socialise and spend time together.
Each participant gets three main meals and one snack a day. The food is varied and designed for active young people. We make sure the gaps between meals are not too long and that young people get enough energy throughout the day. Allergies, food intolerances or special diets must be reported at registration.
Health
Young people with symptoms of illness will not be admitted to the camp. We ask parents to make sure before camp that their child is healthy — this helps protect the health and wellbeing of the whole camp family. Please also let us know about any health-related restrictions, phobias, special needs or other circumstances that may affect the child's participation in the camp.
Safety and camp counsellors
All camp counsellors hold a valid camp counsellor partial qualification certificate and a valid first aid certificate. There is one camp counsellor for every 10–15 young people. Up to three groups take part in one camp session, and each group has two group counsellors. A senior counsellor and the camp manager are also present at the camp. Volunteers and additional counsellors are brought in when needed.
Adventure games are led by camp counsellors who follow the principles of non-formal learning and ensure the safety of young people. Our hike instructors have received appropriate training; we always choose suitable, age-appropriate activities for children and follow all safety rules.
Taevaskoja children's camp is a bullying-free camp. Our aim is to create a safe and supportive environment where every child can feel good.
Participant card and booking information
Registration for the camp takes place via the booking form on the website. When filling in the booking form, you must provide correct information about the child and confirm that you have read the camp rules and the booking and cancellation terms.
If you have not received a response within a week of filling in the booking form, please write to laager@taevaskoja.ee.
When the booking form is submitted, the website sends a preliminary confirmation and an automatic email to the address given in the form. If no confirmation arrives, a required field may have been left blank, and the form should be checked or filled in again.
Payment and cancellation
The invoice for the camp place is issued shortly after booking. The booking fee is 140 € and must be paid within two weeks of the invoice being issued.
The remaining amount must be paid one month before the camp session starts.
Cancellation and refund terms depend on the time of and reason for cancellation. In case of illness, a doctor's certificate must be provided. The detailed terms are described in the booking and cancellation terms.
Who to contact with questions?
